Surfing School
Date/Time: Sunday, July 1st

Description: Welcome to Sunny Southern California where the Beach Boys got their groove. The beach was the place to be and surfing was the sport. You’ll be picked up from the hotel and transported to beautiful Mission Beach. Once there, you’ll learn how to read the ocean waves, currents, and swells with Big Daddy Bob and his gang. They’ll show you the techniques needed to begin enjoying the “Sport of Kings”. After a few tries, you will be on your own and before you know it, you’ll get stoked, be hanging 10 and calling all of your friends “Dude”. Even if you aren’t ready for the North Shore you’ll be sport ‘in a Big Daddy Bob Surf School ‘T’ shirt and a big grin on your way back. A Big Kahuna’s gourmet pizza lunch will be served. Boards and equipment will be provided, so be wearing your board shorts and bring your sunscreen, beach towel, flip-flops and be ready for a fun filled day at the beach.

Description: Revisit your youth at the Corvette Diner. Bring back the 50’s and 60’s with the car that brought you to the Convention in the first place. Retro décor, huge game room, and generous portions set this restaurant experience on fire. This place is for those that are in the mood for fun, car comrade, and good, plentiful, burger joint food. And the staff; waitresses in poodle skirts with sassy attitudes will keep you entertained if the DJ doesn’t. Kids 10 and under will get a free game card. We will be taking over the Corvette Clubhouse and Blacklight room.

Kayak TourLa Jolla 7 Cave Kayak Tour
Date/Time: Monday, July 2nd

Cost: $ 50.00 per person

Description: La Jolla - “Jewel of the ocean”. Here you’ll get an up-close and personal experience with the Pacific Ocean, its wildlife and natural wonders. You will board your kayak on the sands at La Jolla Shores and paddle out through the surf into the La Jolla Marine Preserve with your guide. Be advised you WILL get wet so dress appropriately. He will show you the sights and sounds of the sea cliffs and marine life. You will also paddle to the famous seven caves (Sunny Jims, Clams, and the Arch caves) getting a perspective that cannot be achieved from land. On your way into the sanctuary you will encounter and observe sea lions, leopard sharks, guitarfish, garibaldi, and an occasional dolphin through the clear waters. You will then ‘surf’ your kayak to shore. So bring suitable clothes or a change, sunscreen, hat, and a towel. This is an exhilarating experience, and one that should not be missed, to truly experience the beauty of the Pacific.

Description: Eureka! -- California’s State call. It all started at Sutter’s Mill in the Sacramento area in 1849, but that was not the only place where gold was found. Yes, right here in Julian, a small mountain town 1 hour east of San Diego that has not lost its 19th century charm. Your first stop will be the Wolf Rescue Center where you will learn about the wolves of the world that they have housed there, and conservation methods that they are working on to save these magnificent animals (some walking needed). Next on to the Smith Ranch Gold Mine where you will board a special mine train and take a ride one mile up the mountain. All along the way learning what it was like to be a miner; the hardships, disappointments, and elations. Arriving at the mine children can board an ore cart and be pushed into the mine. You will then be taken back through the town of Julian to have lunch at ‘Jeremy’s on the Hill’, where you can feast on gourmet fair from Cordon Bleu graduate Jeremy Manley. For those that like to live adventurously you have to try a Julian Hard Cider with lunch. After which you be able to take in the town of Julian itself. Shop the boutique stores or order a cherry phosphate at the real old fashioned drug store soda fountain. You won’t be able to leave without a least tasting a slice of ‘Moms” apple pie. A trip some make just for her pie. We will then take you back to the 21st century.

The CaliforniaSailing the Tall Ship “The Californian”
Date/Time: Mon or Tues, July 2 or 3

Description:  Come feel the spray in your face and the cool wind in your hair as you sail out of San Diego Bay into the Pacific Ocean on the State of California's official square-rigger, “The Californian”. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to sail as it was done when ships were the “Kings of Commerce”. You'll be part of the crew hoisting the mizzen and trimming the topsail. It's possible that you might even get a chance at the helm, or help fire the cannon! You'll get a new perspective as you pass near the Navy ships docked at North Island, the submarine base, Coronado Bridge and Carillon Point.  See the Embarcadero from a ship's point of view. Get up-close with the local California sea lions and other aquatic life in the Bay. So come be a part of the crew; but don't forget to curve your mouth and say ARRRRG!

Description: Aloha, welcome to the islands! This will be your greeting as you arrive at the Bali Hai on Shelter Island in San Diego Bay. Make sure you are in a festive mood with the proper attire – flowered shirt or dress, and sandals. Have a California roll and a Mai Tai before the main course. Then feast on Teriyaki tri-tip, Kahlua pork and Macadamia encrusted Mahi Mahi. While you dine, you will be serenaded with live music from the Motu Nehenche band. After a full meal the Polynesian Dancers will strut their stuff ending with a true fire dancer which will leave you breathless. It will be a magical night, all happening with the beautiful city skyline in the background, and will not be repeated unless NCRS plans on having a National in Hawaii.

Embarcadero TourMaritime Museum /Midway Tour

Description: Avast there me hearty! Spend the day at the beautiful and intriguing San Diego Bay Embarcadero for the Maritime Museum and USS Midway. Arriving at the museum, you’ll experience a two hour guided tour commencing with the world’s oldest active sailing tall ship, “Star of India”. Travel through time back to 1874 and relive what it was like going overseas on a four month voyage. Next, on to the “HMS Surprise”, the ship used in the film, “Master and Commander” and “Pirates of the Caribbean – Stranger Tides”. The Museum has several other turn-of-the-century ships, and two that are not ships at all but submarines, one from the USSR! Hop aboard the vintage pilot boat for a cruise around the harbor and get an off shore view. After all this have lunch at the famous Anthony’s Harbor side next door.  Next you will be taken to the USS Midway, one of the world’s largest aircraft carriers. This self-guided audio tour will take you through the bowels of the ship.  See what it was like to live aboard a “City on the Water”. Walk past aircraft of past wars and see just how much take-off room they really have! You can experience this feeling in the motion simulators below decks. See what our men and women of the military endure in order to protect our freedom.

Old Town Dinner Casa De Reyes Dinner/Ghost Tour

Description: It's Fiesta Time!  Come spend an evening at the Casa de Reyes for a special night of dinner with friends, present and PAST. The fiesta will start in the courtyard of the Casa de Reyes for welcome Margaritas and Jalapeño Poppers, followed by a superb buffet style dinner. Mexican specialties will be served - from Chicken Enchiladas to Beef Fajitas to Pork Carnitas. Margaritas, of course, will be flowing briskly. After a scrumptious, fulfilling meal, take a walking tour with Michael Brown, a professional ghost hunter.  He'll show you where he has found evidence of paranormal activity in the highly publicized Haunted Old Town.  Using state-of-the-art equipment, he'll show you the centers of this activity. Many that take this tour experience being touched, chilled, or having the feeling of walking through cobwebs where none exist.  You‘ll also experience “the vortex” on the grounds of the Whaley House, documented as the most haunted house in the U.S.  If you were a skeptic before, you just might return a believer.

If you want to totally escape the confines of this continent, set your sights on the San Diego Safari. This experience will transport you through 1800 acres of the African Savanna, the plains of Asia, the dense tropical jungles of the Amazon, and so much more. You not only see the exhibits but you actually go through them while rhinos, giraffes, lions, and tigers get a close look at you too since you’re in THEIR area. Feed the 100’s of Lorikeets from the palm of your hand. Watch as 1000’s of leafcutter ant’s transport pieces of the jungle over seemingly insurmountable rocks, logs and streams and keep the jungle floor cleaned-up. Over 3500 animals inhabit this world unto itself. This is no zoo; it is life in the wild.

Description:  Now that the convention is complete, join your fellow Americans for a celebration of freedom. The Fourth of July has always been a day of celebration and remembrance of those that have fought and sacrificed for all of us. Enjoy dinner at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse on Harbor Island. The Lighthouse is an actual functioning lighthouse known as Beacon #9 on any USCG Nautical Map and one of San Diego's best known architectural landmarks. Besides the Lighthouse, Tom Ham's is also famous for its eye-catching vistas of the San Diego Bay, Coronado Bridge, Coronado Island and the San Diego skyline.  Following dinner sit back and enjoy the Big Bay Boom, the annual fireworks extravaganza over San Diego Bay.  The choreographed pyrotechnics will be released simultaneously from four barges strategically placed around San Diego Bay and will be accompanied by synchronized patriotic music.  What a spectacular way to end your visit to San Diego!

Description: This is a tour of San Diego, its history and trivia. You’ll travel through and stop at Old Town, Embarcadero, Seaport Village, San Diego Convention Center, Center City (Horton Plaza), Gas Lamp District, Coronado, Hotel Del Coronado, Balboa Park, Little Italy, and the Zoo. Round trip approx 2-3 hours. Participants are able to embark and disembark at any stops for shopping etc. If you want to see the most of the city in the shortest time, then this is the trip for you. This tour picks up in front of the hotel lobby and starts in Old Town.

Description: Hop aboard the Convention Shuttle for a trip to the World Famous San Diego Zoo. The Zoo is so large that it will be impossible to explore it by foot alone, so take the tour bus for a 40 minute ride through the park. Afterwards, you can board the Express Bus to see your favorite animals. Whether it be to the Lost Forest, for Big Cat Trail, Panda Canyon, Asian Passage, Elephant Odyssey, Africa Rocks, The Outback, or the Urban Jungle. Or maybe to Discovery Outpost, where the Children’s “hands-on” Zoo and Wegeforth Theater animal acts are located. Or just take the Skyfari Aerial Tram near the entrance and fly over the exhibits to the far end of the park at the Polar Rim and start from there. All-in-all it will be a fascinating journey through the world’s disappearing animal populations. If you are a horticulturist at heart, you’ll be amazed at the diversity and beauty of the plants and forests from around the globe.
