Great Lakes National Convention Evening Activities

As we get closer to the event the pace of activities rises dramatically.  Most of our activities are in place and our teams are working frantically to optimize your enjoyment. We have added a new technical seminar “The NCRS Technical Discusion Board & Judging points Tracking” presented by : Rob Musquetier, John Waggoner and Gary Chestnut on Wednesday, July 20, 3:00 – 5:00 PM.

While these are the highlight events, every day is packed full of tours, seminars, shopping, dining and most important – fabulous Corvettes.  Come well rested as there won’t be much time when something very interesting is going on. We of the Michigan Chapter guarantee it.

Enjoy your evenings with a number of activities to choose from. Please note that some of the start times have been adjusted from years past so you’ll want to plan ahead! CONVENTION ID IS REQUIRED FOR ALL ACTIVITIES. You WILL NOT be allowed to participate without it!

Welcome Reception

We will enthusiastically welcome all of you to the 2011 Great Lakes National at a superb reception in the newly renovated Crowne Plaza Host Hotel. This reception is sponsored by the Crowne Plaza and the delicious hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be prepared by chefs from the world renown Matt Prentice Restaurants. Cash bars will be available during the reception. Please remember this is a reception and not a dinner. Plan ahead to have your dinner after the reception. A simultaneous Youth Reception will be offered for younger participants, ages 7–15 (See Youth Activity page for details).

Remember- CONVENTION ID IS REQUIRED FOR ALL ACTIVITIES. You WILL NOT be allowed to enter without it!


NCRS Annual Membership Meeting

Date/Time: Tuesday, July 19 6:30PM
Cost:           Free to registered attendees

Please plan to attend this important meeting.It will be held at the Rock Center and open to All NCRS members. There will be abrief business report followed by Chapter recognition. Chapter Flight Awards, Sportsman Awards Master Judge and higher awards and selected additional awards. This is your meeting, please plan to attend. (A simultaneous Youth Activity will be offered for younger participants, aged 7 – 15. See Youth Activities page for details.)


Ovation Yacht Cruise and Banquet

Cost:           $110 per person

Get ready for an evening of fun, friendship and entertainment courtesy of Infinity-Ovation Yacht Charters in St. Clair Shores, MI. This three hour dinner cruise features exquisite cuisine, with beverages included and music for dancing while cruising the Detroit River aboard the 150 foot, triple deck, Ovation motor yacht. The cruise ship will travel past many Detroit landmarks while sailing south around Belle Isle with the return trip through Canadian waters. Rest assured, this will be a most memorable night out for you and your spouse and the best value offered by the Great Lakes Chapter at this Convention. Come hungry and refreshed to take full advantage of the opportunity dine and dance the night away while enjoying the Detroit skyline. Luxury motor coach transportation will be provided between the boat dock and hotel.

Our Wednesday Night Dinner Cruise on the Yacht Ovation is one of our highlight activities. This three hour cruise on the Detroit River will feature a truly opulent setting on this three story, 150 foot yacht. There will be an open bar for the entire cruise with premium adult beverages and a truly sumptuous dinner, all included in your reservation price. There will be music for dancing for those so inclined. As our yacht travels south around Belle Isle and a return trip through Canadian waters, you will be treated to a view of the area’s landmarks from the truly unique perspective of the river view. We are leaving no detail un-attended to make this a most memorable night out for you and your spouse. You will be pampered and coddled from when our land yachts pick you up at the Host Hotel until they return you there after the cruise. Come hungry and refreshed to take full advantage of the opportunity to dine and dance the night away while enjoying the Detroit skyline. General Motors Heritage Center

GM Heritage Center

Date/Time: Thursday, July 21 6:00PM- 11:00PM
Cost:           $75 per person

Prepare yourself for a most memorable evening designed to simultaneously satisfy all of your senses. You’ll be allowed to stroll among the “rolling sculpture” created by General Motors over its rich 100+ year history, while sampling the finest cuisine. There is also a treasure trove of advertising and promotional material, vintage neon signage and an engine display of the evolution of the internal combustion engine. Specific displays are dedicated to each of the vehicle divisions, including a special display dedicated to our favorite - the Corvette. Along with the elegant food service stations will be “cash” bars to keep you refreshed (Two drink tickets are included with each $75 ticket). Our host will be Greg Wallace, the Heritage Center Manager and fellow NCRS member (!). Greg will be pulling all the stops to make sure everyone has a most enjoyable and memorable evening. Luxury motor coach transportation will be provided with staggered return times in order to best accommodate those who won’t be able to easily satisfy their thirst for things automotive.

On Thursday night we will have another unique adventure, the General Motors Heritage Center. Prepare yourself for a most memorable evening designed to simultaneously satisfy all of your senses. You’ll be allowed to stroll among the “rolling sculpture” created by General Motors over its rich 100 + year history, while sampling the finest cuisine catered by John Forte and his staff. In addition to the wide variety of vehicles on display, there is a treasure trove of advertising and promotional material, vintage neon signage and an engine display that shows the evolution of the modern internal combustion engine. Specific displays are dedicated to each of the vehicle divisions, including a special display dedicated to our favorite marquee—the Corvette.

Along with the elegant food service stations will be open bars to keep you refreshed as you examine this exquisite collection. Our host will be Greg Wallace, the Heritage Center Manager and fellow NCRS member. He will be pulling all the stops to make sure that everyone has a most enjoyable and memorable evening.


Awards Banquet at the Suburban Collection Showplace

A night of celebration and a final chance to catch up with old and new friends. Join us as we celebrate the wonderful cars and members who worked so hard to bring their treasures to Novi, to be looked over for hours by our dedicated judges. Be you among the award recipients, the judges, or simply a participant we will all find out how this years collection of beautiful cars measured up. Don't forget to bring your appetite for a delicious meal shared with friends as we wind down our week of "Great Cars and Great Friends".

Friday evening join your fellow NCRS members at the Suburban Collection Center for the Awards Banquet. For many, this is the rightful recognition of their hard work and determination to have their car judged to be among the best of the Corvette family.
