Corvette Sting Ray: Genesis of an Icon

EVERYONE loves the iconic C2 Corvettes. These "Midyears" (a truly outdated name 60+ years and 7 "generations" into production- but still MY favorite) were a huge success for Chevrolet.

NCRS Members were blessed to have shared time with Larry Shinoda during his decades attending NCRS events. Larry’s contributions to the development of the 1963 are well-known to members of the Corvette community. The author of this new book was another gifted young designer who made his mark on Corvette. Sixty years after the introduction of the 1963- the complete inside story is finally being told!

In 1957, 20 year-old GM Designer Peter Brock sketched what would become the ’63 Corvette Sting Ray. In this book he tells the fascinating inside story from GM VP Bill Mitchell’s inspiration for the car after returning from the Turin Auto Show in 1957 through the unusual combination of personalities and events that enabled its production, including the secret creation of Mitchell’s personal Sting Ray Racer in 1958.

More than 180 never before seen images, most from GM Design’s own archives, illustrate the behind the scenes history and evolution of the Sting Ray, including more than 20 of Brock's original design studio drawings showing the variations that were contemplated, along with the sketch Mitchell ultimately chose as the direction for the car. This story is about far more than the design of an American Icon; it’s a personal history of the era and the inside story of the team that collaborated to create the iconic 1963 Corvette Sting Ray.

Peter Brock's book "Corvette Sting Ray: Genesis of an American Icon" reveals the elaborate and complicated history and secret origins of the legendary "split window" 1963 Corvette Sting Ray….

It was recently awarded "Book of the Year" by the highly respected Motor Press Guild AND also won the “Dean Batchelor Award” for best Motorsports Journalism of 2013!

This is an edition signed by Peter Brock at the recent Bloomington Gold show! It's signed by him both inside AND on the cover of the slipcase.

My copy sits proudly in my Corvette library!
