National Convention Activities

NCRS will celebrate its 50th anniversary at the 2024 Convention in Hampton Roads and we are planning some very special events to honor this milestone, including reflections on our long history from surviving founding members.

There will be a tremendous display of NCRS American Heritage Award Corvettes, along with many Special Interest and Year of 1974 Corvettes. A very special welcome reception is being planned, more details to come later, along with other surprises and activities.

A special 50th anniversary remembrance will be given to all registrants. Don’t miss this milestone event, registration opens February 1st.

Cost: Free to registered attendees. Finally ….. it’s time to RELAX! Meet your friends, old and new, and enjoy the evening in a casual setting. You’ll experience the most delectable light hors d’oeuvres and plenty of good company. Cash bars will be located throughout the reception area.
Registration ID is mandatory. You will not be allowed in the event without it!


NCRS Annual Membership Meeting

Cost: Free to all members
Please plan to attend this most important meeting. It is open to ALL NCRS members. There will be brief “housekeeping” announcements followed by Chapter Flight Awards, Sportsman Awards, Master Judges advancements, as well as other select awards. This is YOUR meeting; please plan to attend.

Date & Time: Thursday August 8th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM Cocktail hour, Dinner seating begins at 7:00 PM – HRCC Grand Ballroom A B & C
Cost: $75.00 adult entrée, $25.00 child entrée (Ages 5 – 12)
Whether you are receiving an award or not, this is the last night to enjoy a great meal and good times with your friends. The evening begins with a social/cocktail hour in the Grand Ballroom Foyer – HRCC. Dinner is your choice of savory beef short ribs: $75, roasted chicken breast w/crab cake: $75, or a vegetarian dish: $75. Children’s Entrée: $25, is available for ages 6 – 12.
Please make your entrée selection on your registration and dress is business casual. Pre-seating table selection will begin on Tuesday at the Registration/Help Desk.

If you are to receive an award and cannot attend, please make advance arrangements at the Registration/Help Desk for it to be shipped.


Year of the 1974 Display

Cost: $75 Sign up on the Judging Registration Form.
All NCRS members owning 1974 Corvettes are encouraged and are welcome to register their cars for the 2024 50th Anniversary Year of the 1974 at the convention in Hampton Roads. Any 1974 Corvette(s) registered for the Year of the ‘74 will be displayed and receive recognition, a special plaque. So please register your Corvette early. Year of the ’74 plaques will be presented at the Awards Banquet.

Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg

Williamsburg was the capital of the Virginia Colony from 1699 to 1780 and played a significant role in the American Revolution.
Its heart is Colonial Williamsburg, a historic district and living history museum where actors in period costume depict colonial life in the streets, the stores, and workshops.
Enjoy the historical reenactments and theatrical performances, the vibrant gardens and art museums and the original 18th century buildings and homes.

Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach

Military Aviation Museum

The Virginia Military Aviation Museum includes over 50 aircraft from the World War I and World War II era. You won’t find a larger collection of authentic, fully restored, operational military aircraft at a single location anywhere else in the world.

The airplanes are monuments to those who built, flew, and maintained them.

Connected to the main museum building on the west side is the Army Hangar. This 15,000 square foot hangar is where you will find many US Army Air Forces aircraft mixed in with some of the collection from Great Britain, Russia, and other countries.

Visit the Army Hangar to see the P-26 Peashooter, the Messerschmidt Bf 109, the B-25 Mitchell, the Spitfire, Hurricane, and our three Polikarpov fighters.

Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Revolutionary Museum

Historic Jamestown

The Jamestown Settlement was originally built more than 50 years ago to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the First Permanent English Settlement at Jamestown. It is a museum of 17th-century Virginia history and culture. Near the site of the original colony, discover the story America’s beginnings through films, gallery exhibits and outdoor recreations. You will learn about the Virginia Native Americans who occupied the landscape for centuries, the arrival of English colonists to Jamestown in 1607 and the first documented arrival of West Central Africans in 1619, leading to cultural encounters and events that planted the seeds of a new nation.

The Museum of the American Revolution at Yorktown tells the dramatic story of our Nation’s founding through immersive gallery experiences, object theaters, and recreated historical scenes. From the early stirrings of unrest in Boston to the opening shots of the War of Independence, and from signing of the Declaration of Independence to the creation of the American Republic, the Museum’s permanent exhibition explores the ideas, events, and legacies of America’s revolutionary beginnings.

1:30pm-3:30pm---Arrive to the American Revolutionary Museum for a guided tour of the Military Encampment, Village and Museum.

Cruise on the Victory Rover and Tour of USS Wisconsin

Victory Rover Cruise

The two-hour narrated cruise departs from Nautilus, home of the Battleship Wisconsin. The USS Wisconsin is an Iowa class battleship built for the United States Navy in the 1940s and is currently a museum ship. Completed in 1944, the ship was assigned to the Pacific Theater during World War II, where she participated in the Philippines campaigns and the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

During the cruise the captain provides an entertaining and fascinating commentary as you tour one of the world’s busiest seaports including the world’s largest naval base, home of the Atlantic Fleet, made up of destroyers, guided missile cruisers, submarines, aircraft carriers and more. There is plenty of comfortable seating, an air-conditioned enclosed deck, an open-air shaded upper deck, and a snack bar and souvenir shop.

At the conclusion of the cruise, you have ample free time to enjoy lunch, do a self-guided tour of the USS Wisconsin and explore the Nauticus Museum.

Virginia Air and Space Museum

Air & Space Museum

The Virginia Air & Space Science Center is celebrating more than 25 years of educational excellence as the official visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center. The Virginia Air & Space Science Center features interactive aviation exhibits spanning 100 years of flight, more than 30 historic aircraft, a hands-on space exploration gallery, unique space flight artifacts, and more! The Center is home to the Apollo 12 Command Module and the Orion PA-1 Test Vehicle.

A unique collaboration between the City of Hampton and NASA Langley Research Center started in 1986. NASA Langley Research Center expressed a willingness to relocate their visitor center to downtown Hampton, so more people would have access to explore the past, present, and future of air and space.

Mariners Museum

Mariners Museum

Designated as America’s National Maritime Museum by Congress, it is one of the largest maritime museums in North America. The Mariners’ Museum Library contains the largest maritime history collection in the Western Hemisphere.

The Mariners’ is the proud caretaker of more than 200 tons of artifacts recovered from the wreck of USS Monitor, including its revolving gun turret, Dahlgren guns, steam engine, and more. The USS Monitor Center houses the award-winning exhibit Ironclad Revolution as well as the largest and most advanced conservation lab of any maritime museum in the world, The Batten Conservation Complex. Ironclad Revolution invites you to experience the story of USS Monitor, CSS Virginia, and the historic 1862, Battle of Hampton Roads through a melding of artifacts, original documents, paintings, personal accounts, and inter actives that will pique all five senses. Immerse yourself in the tales of the individuals who lived through and lost their lives in this pivotal period of American history. The largest boat in its collection is the Oracle Team USA 17, the yacht that won the 2013 America’s Cup.

Hampton Queen Harbor Tour

Hampton Queen Harbor Tour

On this two-hour narrated harbor cruise aboard the Hampton Queen, you will enjoy the picturesque beauty of the harbor and learn about one of the busiest ports on the East Coast. The tour covers over 20 points of interest and over 400 years of history from the founding of Jamestown in 1607 to the destroyers, submarines, and aircraft carriers at Norfolk Naval Base.

Some of the highlights of the tour include the Virginia Air & Space Science Center, Hampton University, the VA Medical Center, Fort Monroe and Fort Wool, Old Point Comfort Lighthouse, and possible dolphin sightings. The Hampton Queen is climate controlled and has some great outdoor space to enjoy the harbor breezes. Bar service and a snack bar are available on board.

2 Military Tours Coming

We are in the planning stages of a tour of one of the Aircraft Carriers that will be in port at Norfolk and a tour of one of the Naval Air Stations also, either Norfolk NAS or Oceana NAS.

As soon as details are finalized, (by the next Driveline issue) they will be posted on the NCRS website and in the Driveline.
